Your city. Your budget. Imagine that.

Greetings, CDP community!

All of us are looking forward to Saturday’s Community Building Potluck–an opportunity for you–our supporters–to meet each other and plug into the campaign. RSVP if you haven’t yet!
Bring other folks, and a snack to share 🙂

CDP Community Building Potluck
This Saturday, Jan 26,  3 – 5 pm (kickoff at 3:30)
At the Sudo Room, on 22nd St between Broadway and Telegraph, next to address #459.
Ring the bell if the door is locked, otherwise just come in and take the elevator to the 2nd floor.

This week, we held our weekly organizing meeting on Dr. King’s day–no better time!–and I’d like to share with you an excerpt from one of his speeches. It reminded me of the basic intolerance for injustice that drives our work to build true, meaningful community power.

“….There are some things in our social system to which I am proud to be maladjusted and to which I suggest that you too ought to be maladjusted.

I never intend to adjust myself to the tragic inequalities of an economic system which takes necessities from the masses to give luxuries to the classes….
I call upon you to be maladjusted. Well you see, it may be that the salvation of the world lies in the hands of the maladjusted.”
Dr. King reminds us to ask: What injustices do I refuse to adjust to?

When we answer this question, it helps us envision a different world–and in the spirit of movement builders before us, to strive toward it smartly, thoughtfully, and fiercely.
Thanks for all of the work that you do!
Sonya, CDP
