Your city. Your budget. Imagine that.

Are you ready to see…

…more synergy between the hard-won wisdom of elders and the bold ideas of youth?

…a broadly-shared sense of our interdependence, based on concrete experience, and not just good intentions?

…public decision-making that reflects the diverse insights and experiences of all?

The time has come to join the Community Democracy Project.

“When I was a boy and I would see scary things in the news, my mother would say to me, Look for the helpers. You will always find people who are helping. To this day, especially in times ofdisaster, I remember my mother’s words and I am always comforted by realizing that there are still so many helpers–so many caring people in this world.

–Mister Rogers

As many are reflecting on how we can have a more safe and more humane world, it is good to remember that a key reason many of us do the work we do–and a key part of the vision of CDP–is to make it easier for the “helper” in each of us, in every community, to shine–coming together not just in reaction to crisis, but as a proactive force for repairing and expanding the social fabric that is the foundation of a just society.

We are continuing to build bridges with diverse groups and organizations in Oakland. If you would like to invite us to speak with folk in your group about our campaign to put the people of Oakland in charge of the budget, and/or you want a copy of the draft initiative to share with your people, let us know =)

We are continuing to call supporters and set up one-on-one meetings, as we solidify our plans and commitments before the official launch of the signature drive in early 2013. If we called you and left a message, call us back and let us know when you can meet. If we haven’t called you yet, don’t worry; we’re working our way through our list and we haven’t forgot you =)

Our next meeting is Monday (tomorrow) at 7 pm. RSVP for location details. It’ll be a potluck.

In love and solidarity,

Shawn and the rest of the CDP Team
